![]() I don't know about you, but over the last year or so I have been hearing people rave about essential oils. I have friends who sell it, family who use it, and I find myself googling benefits of aromatherapy. Perhaps it is the latest wellness fad, perhaps not... I never really know how popular things are until they show up as pop culture references in some of my favorite TV shows. Recently, Bob’s Burgers had a storyline in which Linda, the matriarch of the Belcher family, gets sucked into the world of essential oils. So, it is official, essential oils are now everywhere! In a nutshell, essential oils are concentrated plant extracts that maintain the aroma of their source. They can stimulate your sense of smell and possess some medicinal qualities The benefits behind essential oils range from relieving headaches, curing seasonal colds, aiding in sleep, and calming anxiety-- so it is no wonder why people have moved toward this more natural approach to everyday ailments. But, why talk about oils here at PSGS? Because Sister #2 has started a small collection of jewelry suitable for diffusing oils. These bracelets can be used to slowly diffuse essential oils throughout the day without having to re-apply oils topically or having access to a diffuser. PSGS pieces are made using lava stones along with beach glass to create a unique looking and fully functional piece of jewelry. Because lava stones are naturally porous, you can add 1-2 drops of your favorite oil to the stone to have all day aroma. It is recommended that you wait until the oil dries on the stone before putting the jewelry on so as not to stain clothing. If you are already using essential oils or have been looking to start, think about using them with a piece of PSGS jewelry. Your oils may even last longer since you won’t have to reapply topically throughout the day. Explore the shop for jewelry that pairs fashion with function and find a new way to take your favorite scents with you anywhere.

![]() It is hard to tell where the obsession started. From what I can remember, we were on vacation in Florida a few years ago and my family and I were spending a lot of time walking in the ocean tide looking for treasures My mom (Sister #2) and aunts walked with their heads down looking for unique shells and hoping to land the jackpot of finding sea glass on a beach that is travelled by hundreds of tourists. While I was more interested in savoring the break from a harsh Wisconsin winter, I did enjoy the time we all spent together as a family. Beach combing on the most remote beaches we could access was a new tradition we started, but it wasn’t long before my mom and her sisters found a year-round hobby. From the coast of St. George Island to the rocky beaches of Lake Michigan, the beach combing bug hit the sisters pretty hard and has since become their newest adventure together. A drill press, weekly beach glass hunts, and a few trips to the craft store kickstarted the sisters’ business. They started making jewelry for themselves (and their daughter/niece who always asked nicely) and now are creating pieces for everyone to enjoy. Psycho Sea Glass Sisters was a label that was given to them by Sister #1’s husband, and even though it pains all the sisters to give him credit—the name has stuck and will continue to describe their love not just for the hunt, but their desire to showcase the beauty of nature. For me, the best part of helping them on this journey is making sure more people find joy in their art (check out their Instagram @psychoseaglasssisters). I have watched all of them create with such attention to detail and I’ve even watched them take apart a creation that “wasn’t quite right”. I may not have the patience they have to make a piece of jewelry, but I have helped in finding glass for them to use. The jewelry they’ve made has become a direct representation of them as sisters. They may work with the same materials, sometimes even in the same place, but all three pieces will be completely unique.
Even with these different looks, you can tell they all belong together. So, shop the collection for yourself, for a gift, or even for some inspiration. And be sure to check back regularly for new additions to the store and more stories as told by me, PSGS’ biggest fan. |
